Introduction to the Whole School Evaluation process

Whole-school evaluation (WSE) is a process of external evaluation of the work of a school carried out by the Inspectorate of the Department of Education and Skills (DES). The process is designed to evaluate key aspects of the work of the school and to promote school improvement

For more information on the WSE process, please see the  information document produced by the Department of Education and Skills: A Guide to Whole School Evaluations in Primary Schools.

The WSE process in Mary, Mother of Hope Senior National School

A Whole School Evaluation (WSE) was carried out by three inspectors from the Department of Education and Skills during the first term of the 2013/14 school year. During the whole-school evaluation, inspectors observed teaching and learning in ten mainstream class settings and five support teaching settings. The inspectorate evaluated teaching and learning in four subject areas: English, Irish, Mathematics and Music.

Upon completion of the Whole School Evaluation, the inspectorate produced a report, which was initially presented to the Board of Management of the School, the Staff and the Parents Association. The Board of Management was then invited to make a short response to the report. Upon completion of this process, the report was published on the website of the Department of Education and Skills (DES) on the 1st April, 2104.
